Artist Statement 2020

Picture people impossibly close together. They are variously implicated in larger actions but most are unaware of this involvement. Few address us, their eyelids weighed down by a social gravity. They are ambivalent to touch each other. When touched by others they seem surprised at their own corporeality. Often it seems one appendage is controlled by or associated with two or more faces. These are people locked into an inverted universe wherein the physical laws underlying our complex social world have been supplanted by that world altogether. These painted people are visual vibrations in an echo chamber, ghostly by virtue of insubstantiality but fully alive in a rich and layered social terrain.
